DAYS OF HEAVEN

{Skirt and Top}via Cheap Thrills Vintage, {Heels}Ann Taylor, {Eye Wear}Thom Browne via Black Optical

As a set decorator, I am on a continuous journey to discover things that both inspire and move me.  As I have shared before, the Tall Grass Prairie in Pawhuska, Oklahoma is a place I return to time and time again.  I have now been there to behold the beauty of each season and I have come to the conclusion that the winter season is my favorite there.  With fields of gold that welcome the warmth of the sun and seem to dance in the wind it is a truly spectacular sight to behold.  Perhaps it is enhanced by winter's light and austerity.  It is a place where I feel a spiritual connection, experience inner peace and I leave with a renewed spirit.

On this day, the visual masterpiece of  the film "Days of Heaven" is re-imagined.  So come along on this magical, cinematic and poetic journey.

BEHIND THE SCENES: BLACK OPTICAL WINTER LOOK BOOK

A few weeks ago I worked with Gary Black and a team of talented artists to create the Winter look book for Black Optical.  The concept behind the shoot was a depiction of modern renaissance.  We wanted to create an environment reminiscent of renaissance paintings and still life's with both modern and vintage eye wear.  I collected props from various sources here in Oklahoma including Dale Gillman Antiques and Bix Antiques(both have an amazing collection of curiosities on hand at their shops).

GIRLS BEHIND WINDOWS

I am so excited to finally share with you the mini-documentary on myself and Rachel Everett that came out last week from OkieMama Magazine.  Several months ago, we were documented during a window installation at Miss Jackson's and interviewed on our craft.  I am so honored to be recognized for our work by this lovely magazine! Be sure to read the editorial piece on Miss Jackson's here and the magazine in its entirety here.  If you aren't familiar with this magazine, I highly recommend  it as it is full of beautiful images, thought provoking articles and great content from cover to cover!

Thank you to Aimee Adams and her wonderful team for the lovely video and editorial piece!

ALL EYES ON...TIM WALKER

The image that started it all for me...

Mulberry Fall 2012 Ad Campaign

Valentino Spring/Summer 2013 Ad Campaign

In my life, I have a handful of people who inspire me daily and have guided me on my creative path.  They include my mentor and former BG boss David Hoey, photographer Norman Parkinson, set designer Jack Fisk and the brilliant Tim Walker.

I remember the exact moment I first laid eyes on Tim's work.  It was six years ago.  I walked over to Rizzoli Books on 57th street in New York City with my best friend Cindy.  I began to peruse the aisles and came across a table with several foreign magazine publications. I was immediately drawn to a magazine called Fotografia with one of the most beautiful photos I had ever seen on a cover.  The image depicted Lily Cole on an iron staircase with a cascading train of fabric tumbling to the ground.  With each page turn, my eyes were exposed to a collection of beautiful, whimsical, humorous and enchanting photos.  I felt an immediate connection and had a sort of a ha moment...this is what I wanted to work towards and be a part of.  Bergdorf Goodman had already been giving me the opportunity to create similar fantastical worlds in the windows but I wanted to apply that knowledge to sets in editorial and film.

There are many great fashion photographers out there now but what sets Tim apart is his ability to not only capture a beautiful image of fashion, but also create a fairy tale-like world on the highest level of imagination.  Along with his set designer, Shona Heath, they have created beautiful work with no boundaries on imagination.  I wouldn't just classify Tim as a gifted photographer but a story teller as well. In fact, that's the name of his newest book.  It's a captivating collection of images that I would highly recommend to anyone.

I hope you enjoy his work pictured above as much as I do and feel inspired today!
